I bought my Buick GS 400 in 1984 in a car yard in Victoria Park, Perth. It’s a 1967 GS 400 pillar coupe and only 1,014 were made. Her serial number is 44607. It was already converted to right hand drive and was painted aqua blue. It had a 350 cubic inch motor that I replaced with a 400 cubic inch motor. Before repainting it, I did a complete restoration even taking the chassis off. I do have trouble getting parts for her e.g. tail light lenses. I then repainted it in 1987 the colour is Candy Apple Sable. We drive the car weekly and often like to go camping in her. We have been to Exmouth, Kalbarri, Geraldton and Kalgoorlie. Driving her on open roads is a real thrill. Last year I decided to rebuild the motor and gear box in my shed. With the help of my mates from Custom Speed works it now has a Holley 800 CFM Carby, full MSD ignition system and 400 cubic motor 60 thou oversize. Also Comp Cam Speed/Pro pistons and roller rockers with aTurbo 400 with a stage 2 shift kit and Speed Master Connecting Rods. It was great fun rebuilding with everyone. I am thinking about a repaint at some stage as being driven, not hidden, she has some chips and small dents. I would like to rebuild for a project a 9 inch diff in the future. I often put the car in car shows such as Show & Shine, Motorvation and GM Car day. I have won five trophies so far for different events. I am not afraid to drive her hard, I just have to bolt on a pair of drag slicks and front runners and I am off. My mates and I do the Nostalgia Drags which is on twice a year at the beginning of the racing season and the end. I got her up to 106mph last time and into the high 12 seconds. It was a great thrill and when we are at the staging lights we aren’t mates for 12 seconds. Paul Linge (WA Buicks)
